Not only does Seadrift offer plenty to do, but it also hosts some amazing yearly events.
The Great Texas Water Safari
They don’t call the Texas Water Safari "The World’s Toughest Canoe Race" for nothing. It is 260 miles of non-stop paddling! Originally started in 1963 and held every year in June. This marathon begins at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos and Seadrift is the host to this grueling race’s finish line. Come see hundreds of competitors take on this grueling challenge or take part yourself.
Shrimpfest was originally started by a group of women back in the 1980’s to raise money and community support for their husbands, whose shrimping livelihoods were jeopardized by state legislation. This “little” fundraiser to fight state government regulations has grown into a yearly community event and is held in early June of each year. Take pride in your state and local community and eat some amazing shrimp as well.
One of the most spectacular sights in the area is the annual fall migration of Ruby-throated hummingbirds. Seadrift residents can enjoy the charm of hummers from their own porches each year. Join the official celebration in nearby Rockport and Fulton, with special presentations, shore bird boat tours, and more.
